Your dog is a part of your family. It's hard to imagine that your pup could ever hurt someone, but dog bites can and do happen... and they can be very expensive.

You are liable for the actions of your dog - are you prepared for that? Consider the insurance coverage you have and whether it is enough to cover your assets in the event your dog seriously injures someone. You may also want to check that your homeowners insurance will cover your dog. Some policies may not, and your coverage could be jeopardized by having a dog in your home.

If your current policy does not offer enough coverage to protect your assets, consider an umbrella policy. An umbrella policy is extra liability insurance that can help protect you from lawsuits, like one from a dog bite.
